Built on a trip.
Shared with anyone who needs it.

Why Passage exists β€” and what it's trying to be.

β€œThree weeks into the trip, my journal was still blank. I'd brought it all the way to France and hadn't written a word.”

In the summer of 2026 my wife and I took our two daughters β€” one year old and five years old β€” on a two-month trip through France. I'd always loved journalling. There's something about taking even a few minutes at the end of a day to reflect that makes the whole experience richer, more real. Memories that would otherwise blur together stay sharp.

But travelling with small kids is a different kind of chaos. By the time dinner was done, bags were unpacked, and everyone was asleep, the last thing I could manage was opening a notebook and writing. Days slipped by. Then weeks. Three weeks in, that journal was untouched.

So I built Passage. Not as a product β€” just as a solution to my own problem. Something I could actually use while we were living the trip: quick voice recordings that wrote themselves, photos that anchored the day, a simple structure that didn't demand more time or energy than I had.

Over those two months I kept building. Every time the app didn't quite fit what my family needed β€” a way for my daughter to record her own memories, a map of everywhere we'd been, a section just for little kids β€” I added it. It became the journal of the trip and the tool that captured it at the same time.

Passage is free. I figured if I was in this situation, others probably were too β€” parents who love travel, love the idea of keeping memories, but just can't find the time or headspace to do it the traditional way.

It will have bugs. It certainly won't be perfect. But I'll keep updating it for as long as my family is using it β€” or for as long as others are getting value out of it. Feedback is always welcome; it's genuinely how the app has improved from day one.
